Types of Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. There are many different types of metal brackets available and our Dr.’s determine which type of bracket will work the best with each patient’s treatment plan. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and arch wires. Some of the metal braces we use allows the patient the option of adding colored elastics (nubs) for a more unique and colorful smile.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are made of clear materials and are less visible on your teeth. Typically clear braces are used mainly on adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as sometimes they can discolor if patients eat high colored foods and do not brush frequently. Clear brackets are generally used on the “social six”, the upper six front teeth.

Invisible (Clear) Orthodontic Appliances

Invisalign® uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. Invisalign® does allow for patients to eat and drink whatever they like during treatment, as they are removable. Not everyone is a candidate for this type of treatment. At your initial examination the doctor will determine if Invisalign® is an option for you.
